Hey Home,
Of the experiences that occurred and events that have taken place, let acclamation of thanks be given for the thoughtful and wonderful birthday wishes! Twenty years now, which could cause some speculation seeing that the mirror image of me depicts a fifteen year old. It's great when you're out tracting and people deduce Elder Roberts as a 23-25 year old and, regardless of our maturity, point out that both Elder Bonin and myself come off as teens. Baby fat and brown Mexican skin should hopefully come in handy at the next decade mark.
To share what we did yesterday, it wasn't anything too exciting, but nevertheless still memorable. My companions surprised me with a baked birthday cake!! Like really, what a surprise! This whole time I never knew they could really bake or cook. It was delish! We did the usual go to church honor the Sabbath, which was great because three of our investigators were able to attend; Nini, Rulencia (a new and very elect investigator), and Dominique who is now back on date for baptism. We've been given the privilege and responsibility as of late in this branch as teachers for Gospel Doctrine and Gospel Principles. After church, we tracted for a while and then had dinner at the Kotter's house. Bro Kotter is the Patriarch of the Stake. Both he and Sis Kotter are the "grandparents" of the branch; some of the nicest and wisest people, a lot like the grandparents I know. They prepared an excellent Sunday dinner, pot roast, carrots, and watermelon{love}, a meal just like the ones I used to know, along with raspberry cake! Such a fancy institution and shared with such lively folk including Dominique who is gonna be one of the greatest members! I hope that I can come and see his baptism!
After dinner, we took a visit to see Nini. It was nice, and I think that of all the people in this area, she and her brother Warren were the reasons why I came here. One of those things not fully understood on this side of the veil, but inside you know it's right. Anyway, the last bit of the evening was trying to visit other potentials and less active members followed by the District call, followed then by a call from President Bennion. All in all a nice day, and I've now been called to be a Zone Leader for the Cornelia Zone.
So it looks like I'm going back to where I started, a visit to Social Circle and Monroe and getting the chance to see the real South in autumn. It's an honor that of all the missionary misfits God chose me to serve in such a high responsibility. It's also a bit of a nerve-racker, but sounds like a challenge. The hands of God do not fail, and what occurs on the mission what happens to us is because God knows what we need to grow and help others become like Him.
I will miss the Mtn. Park YSA Branch. It's been a good time being able to serve and learn from your fellow age group, to learn to have fun while serving. I was here to see a glimpse of college life, gain lots of teaching experiences, and the people I met were for a reason, even if I don't know why. Here's to never growing up, the theme song of this area and the concluding declaration to say that it's been real good. Ready to have some more fun, cause the beat is sick.
This next part of the journey like many parts of our lives should be dangerous, exhausting, treacherous, and hard. But in the end, it will be worth it. I'm told my new companion will be Elder Johnston. I know that I've talked to this guy before, he's white, blond, tall, goodlookin. Just creeped on mormon.org to find out some more about him, but he seems cool.
Much appreciation again for the birthday wishes! It's great to share the gospel, and I'm grateful for the living God. There's so much more to learn and so much more to see in the next year. I wonder where it will all go, and I wonder who I will meet.
Life's good, and twenty is mcfly.
Have a great week and I love you!
Kind regards,
Elder Adam Black
